Lifelong Democrat, Georgia State Representative, Vernon Jones is very popular these days. He openly endorsed President Trump’s reelection bid. This pissed off his party and they verbally attacked him.
Nikema Williams, who is a State Senator, called Jones an, “embarrassment” for choosing to stand with a “racist president.”
“State Rep. Scott Holcomb, a DeKalb Democrat, said Jones’ endorsement of Trump, “is a ploy to ingratiate himself to the Republicans. If the president gets elected, maybe he’ll be appointed to something.” AJC.com reported.
After feeling the backlash, Jones decided that it was time to pack up and resign.
In his resignation letter, Jones said,
“I’m sick and tired of me and my family being attacked and harassed by the Democrat Party for putting my country before my party. I take pride in being an independent thinker.”
Jones also said,
“I endorsed the White guy (Donald J. Trump) that let Blacks out of jail, and they endorsed the White guy (Joe Biden) that put Blacks in jail.”
Support poured in for the Representative and after re-thinking his decision, Jones reversed course and withdrew his resignation letter.
Jones announced his decision by posting a video to his Twitter account and said,
“Yesterday, I announced my intentions to resign from my office. But shortly thereafter, the outpour of support I received was too great for me to ignore. I will not allow the Democrats to bully me into submission. I will not let them win. I will not resign.”
Several people responded, like Interracials for Trump who tweeted,
“Hallelujah! Thank you for not resigning! Don’t ever let the democrats bully you! Us Trump supporters have been bullied for years by democrats & we keep going.”
Keep Looking Up tweeted,
“Good for you!!!! “You haven’t sold your soul to the party like so many so be a strong voice for the right!!! Congrats!”
